ERC URGES THE GOVERNMENT OF BANGLADESH AND MYANMAR TO GRANT INTERNET ACCESS TO ROHINGYA

The World Health Organization declared the outbreak of coronavirus a pandemic. The virus is rapidly spreading all over the world. The new deaths and infections are increasing at alarming rate day by day all over the world. The anxiety and concerns over coronavirus is rapidly growing among general public throughout the world. Similarly, the fear of corona virus is spreading among Rohingya community in Bangladesh refugee camps and inside Myanmar. In the emergency situation like now, people rely on up to date information available via internet, radio, television and so on to take necessary safety precautions to make themselves safe and to protect their love ones.
 
Rohingya has been denied internet access in Bangladesh refugee camps and inside Myanmar for several months. Rohingya community is unable to get up to date information about coronavirus infection and its preventive measures. Therefore, The European Rohingya Council urges the government of Bangladesh and Myanmar to lift restriction on internet access so that Rohingya community is able to get up to date information on coronavirus and its preventive measures to stop coronavirus infection among Rohingya community.
