We are also aware that progress at that level is often blocked by the veto powers of larger nations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">However, as the body responsible for maintaining peace and security we hope that Ireland\u2019s voice, along with the combined voices of the smaller nations, will make a positive difference for the Rohingya.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Rohingya have been the victims of a genocide, perpetrated by the Myanmar Military and shielded by Aung San Suu Kyi. They have been stripped of citizenship and subject to major human rights abuses, evidenced by the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on Myanmar and other research and reports by NGO\u2019s working in the area of Human Rights and Social Justice.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We look forward to following the progress of the Security Council in the area of Human Rights, especially for the most stigmatized and persecuted in the world, the Rohingya.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Rohingya Action Ireland Rohingya Action Ireland congratulates and acknowledges the enormous efforts of the Irish government and high-profile people and voices in securing a seat on the UN Security Council which begins in 2021 for a two-year period.
