The Myanmar army member has been handed over after a flag meeting between BGB-BGP

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has handed over to Myanmar a member of their Border Guard Police (BGP), who had been detained for trespassing into Bangladesh through the Lembuchhari border point.

BGB held a flag meeting with BGP at the zero point near Ghumdhum border in Bandarban around 11pm on Sunday.

After the meeting, the detained army personnel, Aung Bo Thin, was handed over to BGP around 12:30pm.

Cox’s Bazar BGB 34 Battalion Captain Lt Col Md Ami Haidar Azad Ahmed confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.

Lt Col Haidar led the 9-member BGB delegation on Bangladesh side while Kew Wing Ling led the 9-member BGP delegation on Myanmar side.

Earlier on January 24, locals captured Bo Thin while he was roaming around in the hill areas inside Bangladesh territory, and handed him over to the Bhallukhyaia BGB camp.

Upon his detention, Bo Thin said he is a resident of Yangon in Myanmar and a member of the Libi 287 battalion of the Myanmar Army.

He also said he had been assigned to duty at Bendula camp near the Lembuchhari border point.

Later upon interrogation by the BGB 11 battalion members, Bo Thin said he fled into Bangladesh on his own as he did not like to perform the duties at Bendula camp.
